Art of Bleeding's Valentine

This is quite an eerie video I found that uses medical imagery to assess the concept of love. It was created by a group known as "Art of Bleeding" who formulate ways to educate people about emergency medical situations through alternative methods such as film, music, dance and puppetry. The sampling and slight randomness reminds me a little of The Avalanches' track Frontier Psychiatrist. Have a watch below.

Wow, disturbing stuff. Is it the visual alliance of medicine, sex and death that makes it so creepy?

What a find Taz. Totally intriguing, rather sinister and verging on necrophilia! It focuses more on the different symbolic meanings of the heart, and how we target the heart emotionally and physically when those we care about are dying. I'd be interested to see more from the same group.

This piece reminds me of J.G Ballard's book 'Crash'. Ballard's characters are obsessed with automobile accidents and narrate their horrific experiences in extremely lurid language. In the words of the novel's protagonist, the wounds caused by automobile collisions are "the keys to a new sexuality born from a perverse technology." So, Giskin's comments on sex and death are exactly right, although I'm afraid Freud got there first Giskin! Ballard also had a 'Crashed Cars' exhibition in 1970 which raised these same issues. Interestingly Ballard studied medicine for a time at King's College Cambridge.
